Henna (Mehndi) Art |
Henna is another name for the Lawsonia Inermis plant grown in arid areas of countries like Pakistan, India, and UAE to name a few. Henna is also the term used for the action. "I'm getting a henna"or "I'm going to do some henna today". The leaves of this plant are dried, ground into a powder, then reconstituted to make a paste. Recipes to do this vary. My paste includes sugar, henna, Lavender, Geranium, and Cajuput Essential Oils and lemon juice. The paste is applied to the skin in beautiful patterns to create a stain that can last anywhere from 4 days to 8 weeks depending on the person, how well it's taken care of and the part of the body the paste is applied to. It has many names as well, mehndi, mehandi, henna, hina, heena are some of the variations all meaning the same thing. Henna also has medicinal uses in controlling foot issues, parasidic pests and is a natural sunscreen. It was used frequently in many cultures for these properties.

Paint Safety
We use only professional theatrical grade FDA compliant face and body paints and cosmetic grade glitters. They are water based paints and are easily removed with water, no special removers are needed. I will not paint children who have cold sores, runny noses, pink eye, open wounds, or who don't want to be painted, but will offer an alternative of a temporary tattoo. If a child has sensitive skin, a patch test is offered on the inside of the elbow
To remove paint: simply rub soap in first and then rinse with water, this is the fastest and most reliable method. You can also use makeup remover or baby wipes with soap to remove all excess.
Why is paint safety Important?
Please never allow your child to be painted with acrylic or tempera paints. Some face painters are uninformed or prefer to use these inexpensive craft paints and glitters, despite the health risks. These types of paints can cause rashes, itching, burns, blisters, and even scars. They have not been approved by the FDA for use on skin, and most are specifically labeled as "Not for use on skin!“. Many contain cancer-causing agents and other chemicals. Unlike cosmetic glitter, craft glitter should never be used on the face, and certainly nowhere near the eyes!
