You may or may not know that I go to networking or leads groups two times a week. It is a great group of people that get together to talk about business and how we might help each other get more business and builds relationships. If you own your own business and don’t do face to face networking you are really missing out. Not only are these two groups some fantastic people, wonderful friends but also a great way to get more business. You may not think face painting is the kind of business that you ‘need’ to network, but every business is the right kind of business to network.
If you know me personally you know that I am a unique and creative person – definitely not like anyone you know! So I have taken to the habit of painting my face for EVERY meeting I go to. There are ribbon cuttings, luncheons, after hours and weekly meetings; I paint my face for every single one. At first I did it to be recognized and show that I am not a traditional face painter, but as time has gone by, I have really found a lot of benefit to this. One, I get a lot of practice; I try out new designs, new techniques and get suggestions for designs from the other members. Two, I take a photo of every face I paint, this helps to build my portfolio and keep constant content coming out on my website and facebook page (and now my blog too!) I am really enjoying trying to come up with something new and different that I haven’t done before and also something that will make a statement with the group. Both of my groups have fun and energetic members who really get jokes going and rolling throughout the day, sometimes they last weeks before a joke will die! This means I get a response quickly and sometimes I learn the hard way that a design was not good.
During the meetings you are allotted 30 seconds to pitch your commercial, everyone gets a turn and while it can take a while it can also get a little monotonous. We have a few interesting members that are VERY memorable and while odd, you never forget them. While this isn’t my natural direction to go in, I want to be memorable. So in addition to my face paint, I have also started doing my ‘commercial’ in rhyme. Turns out it is really fun to create a poem about my business two times every week! So, in addition to posting step by steps and updates, I will also be posting the poems I create. I hope everyone likes them and gets a kick out of them!
